The second day of the \u201cInvestment and Trade Agency Week\u201d was successfully organized under the theme \u201cEconomic and Financial Stability and the Investment Environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event provided an important platform for discussing Mongolia\u2019s current economic situation and future outlook with the participation of multiple stakeholders. It also played a significant role in strengthening mutual understanding among participants and expanding opportunities for cooperation.<\/p>\n
Representatives of the World Bank, Mr. Mengistu Bessir Achew and Mr. Jos\u00e9 Luis D\u00edaz S\u00e1nchez, participated in the event and delivered presentations on \u201cFinancial Sector Development and Capital Market Reform.\u201d In addition, Ms. Urgamalsuvd N., Director of the Monetary Policy and Research Department of the Bank of Mongolia, joined the event as a guest speaker and delivered a presentation on \u201cMonetary Policy and Financial Stability,\u201d providing a detailed overview of the economic outlook, inflation trends, and the external sector situation.<\/p>\n
During her presentation, Ms. Urgamalsuvd N. highlighted that global economic growth is expected to remain stable at around 3 percent in the coming years, although geopolitical tensions and uncertainties in trade policies persist. She noted that Mongolia\u2019s economy grew by 6.8 percent in 2025, with the mining and agriculture sectors serving as the main drivers of economic growth. She also stated that inflation reached 7.5 percent in January 2026, mainly influenced by rising domestic food prices, particularly the price of meat. Furthermore, despite a decline in coal export revenues, increased copper exports have had a positive impact on foreign trade, keeping the balance of payments in surplus.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mengistu Bessir Achew, Senior Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank, emphasized that Mongolia\u2019s financial system is dominated by the banking sector, which currently consists of 12 commercial banks, 573 non-bank financial institutions, 20 insurance companies, and 53 securities companies. While the financial sector has made notable progress in recent years, the domestic capital market remains relatively underdeveloped, with securities-based financing accounting for less than 1 percent. He also noted that the assets of non-bank financial institutions increased by 52.5 percent in 2024, while loan volumes grew by 56.4 percent, reflecting rapid sectoral growth. However, access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises remains limited, highlighting the need for further development of Mongolia\u2019s financial markets.<\/p>\n
The \u201cInvestment and Trade Agency Week\u201d will continue on March 11, 2026, with an \u201cInvestment One-on-One Consultation\u201d event dedicated to the information technology sector.<\/p>\n
