MONGOLIA’S CAREC 2026 CHAIRMANSHIP AND INVESTMENT & TRADE COOPERATION INITIATIVE

2026-10-05
Mongolia is chairing the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program in 2026. As part of the 25th anniversary of CAREC, a series of high-level events—including the Ministerial Conference, Development Partners’ Dialogue, Business Forum, and Capital Market Development Forum—are being held in Ulaanbaatar from September 28 to October 2, 2026.

As part of the Business Forum on October 1, B2B and B2G matchmaking meetings brought together businesses, domestic and international investors, and government representatives to explore partnerships, exchange ideas, and identify new business opportunities.

MONGOLIA’S FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER WITH CAREC MEMBER COUNTRIES, EXCLUDING CHINA, REACHED US$120.5 MILLION IN 2025, REPRESENTING A 4.5-FOLD INCREASE FROM 2020.

Against the backdrop of growing regional trade and investment cooperation, and the launch of negotiations on the CAREC Trade and Investment Facilitation Partnership (CARTIF) in 2026, Mongolia sees an opportunity to establish a practical and regular cooperation mechanism among investment and trade promotion agencies of CAREC member countries.

Accordingly, the Investment and Trade Agency of Mongolia proposed establishing a “CAREC Investment and Trade Alliance” or “CAREC Investment and Trade Dialogue”. The proposed mechanism would initially focus on cooperation among investment and trade promotion agencies and could subsequently expand to include relevant government institutions, business associations, and the private sector.

The initiative aims to strengthen regional connectivity, facilitate trade and investment, and further support the rapid growth of Mongolia’s economic engagement with CAREC member countries.
